HRTF not working well, Creative G1 DAC + Win 10 *Fixed*

Post by Triviad »

I am guessing the problem i have is part of the general issues that Windows seems to like to torture users with, but here it is anyway:

I use a small DAC (Creative G1) to run headphones on my PC. It does a fantastic job usually.... and I've fixed this problem since I first started this post. Installing OpenAL Soft and running the configurator to set HRTF mode to "Force On", plus setting my headphones in the G1 to stereo mode has fixed this (just in case anyone else has a similar problem.)

Here is a link to the latest release of OpenAL Soft:

https://openal-soft.org/openal-binaries ... .2-bin.zip

Everything you might need is in there, just read how to install carefully so you don't wipeout your native OpenAL32.dll router. Also, don't worry about the information that the included openal-info64.exe generates if you use it: Creatives router will not forward HRTF info because it uses a generic something or other to respond to the little info executable. My setting are below, ignore the info from the second item, just putting it in so you can compare if you want to.

My cgf settings -
[Sound]
hrtf enable = 1
device = OpenAL Soft on Cloud Stinger / Blaster DAC (Sound BlasterX G1)
hrtf = Built-In HRTF
music volume = 0.146915
sfx volume = 0.549455
voice volume = 0.428043
footsteps volume = 0.277928
master volume = 0.878588
