Pink SCREEN!

Ok, So first off I love anything elderscrolls and never had an issue with any of the games until recently.
I have my morrowind game (with DLC's) downloaded through steam. A year or two ago it worked without a hitch. Now, it likes to crash on me.
So, looking up solutions I was brought to the attention of Open Morrowind. Awesome!
Looked up on YouTube on how to download it so I can play. Keep in mind I have never done anything like this before. I am a PC gamer but I know nothing on modding or anything of the sort. I am willing to learn, but I know nothing of the lingo.
Anyway, so download goes smoothly, I follow it step by step. Then I go to play the game and the start up is fine, then the title menu comes up and BAM! Pink screen!
Well crap, back to the drawing board. So Looking at forums and support pages and I keep seeing that the pink screen happens because of something to do with S3TC compression? and it not being set right?
OK...so I look up how to do that. Find another support page that talks about odd codes and opening up synaptic and finding a package.
Look guys I know I may sound stupid, but if you all could give me a run down. a step for step on what to do. Ill do it. In fact if you have a video it would be greater.
I'm just a gamer girl who wants to play her morrowind that she has been playing since childhood. Please and thank you for any help you provide.
