Every time I see "SoaD" somewhere, I think of that article on Something Awful and the reader mail afterwards. I just love that smug superiority with which Thorpe lays down the law.

You sound like you have never heard of one of largest comedy websites and Internet forums in existence, which has major branches in various games, including Goonswarm in Eve Online and is the very origin of Let's Plays (which they know how to do right).
