Mod debugging

Hello!

How would one go about debugging the game? I am interested in fixing a mod which seems to suck on inordinate amounts of RAM for no apparent reason. However, debugging commands from the console seem to have been removed. I quote:
This instruction/function/special variable will not be implemented (at least not in 1.0), because either it isn't working in Morrowind, or it is a debugging aid that is used only from the console and does not serve any purpose in OpenMW.
What was the reasoning behind this? Are there any other ways to measure in-game ram useage, or other indicators of game performance?

Press F3 a few times to get information.

There are also env variables you can use to output this data so you can measure over time.
