[Far future idea] Lua Based Parsing Scripts

Post by micidre »

This relates to something that I but into the Forums a while ago, but I don't know how viable it is, it would probably be for the creation kit. It is to have an API to create plugins for the parsing of files from other games

If this was done it would be far in the future, if it is even possible.

Sorry I have only just seen this response. I was more think of a plugin type system to be able to read other game archives, like MPQ from Blizzard games, as I said on another post. At least in this way people do not have to focus on the addition on how to parse the archives.

What I mean by weither it is viable I don't know if the functionality is possible in Lua.

We've already discussed this in another thread, the answer from the OpenMW project as a whole, is no.

We will not officially support other games file formats.

Our focus is purely BSA/NIF.

That is why I was think a plugin type system so that if someone else wish to create a Parser to simply attach the engine. Not for the Official OpenMW focus.
