Lag Spikes
Lag Spikes
Every 100 feet or so, and after I exit dialogues or an NPC begins to speak my FPS drops to 0 for a second or two, usually not cutting out sound yet sometimes doing so. I can't play the game like this--it's completely unbearable. Other than the lag spikes, my computer runs the game at around 100 fps. I've tried playing at max settings as well as minimum settings to no avail. I've tried installing the Morrowind code patch and this has not solved the problem. Whenever I run a google search on the subject I either encounter threads which state that OpenMW will fix the common cell loading lag spikes, that turning down the draw distance helps or, when I search for the problem regarding specifically OpenMW, absolutely nothing. If anybody has any clue as to how I could fix this I would be most gracious.

Re: Lag Spikes
Can you give your context, such as your setup on which you are running this on? Any mods? What version?
Re: Lag Spikes
I have OpenMW 0.41 installed, running on Windows 10, with only the Morrowind Code Patch version 2.2 installed as far as mods go, although before I installed it I was having the same issues.
Computer specs:
Processor: Intel i7-6700HQ @ 2.60GHZ
GPU: Nvidia GTX 960M
16GB Ram
It's a laptop, specifically a Lenovo Ideapad Y700-15ISK. I tried using Vsync and although my FPS stabalized around 59.9FPS, I was still getting the lag spikes.

Re: Lag Spikes
In fact you can delete anything that isn't Morrowind.ini or Data Files folder and OpenMW will run any way because it ignores these files (and after you import Morrowind.ini you can even get rid of it too, and add BSAs in OpenMW's config manually). MCP only affects Morrowind.exe.
But this is not related to the topic.

Re: Lag Spikes
I'm pretty sure I've already mentioned this, but the problem was already going on before I installed it. MCP also didn't cause the game to not work, and as Capostrophic mentioned it's not affecting OpenMW in any way.Frik wrote:MCP Is Not Compatible With OpenMW..ribadoodi wrote:I have OpenMW 0.41 installed, running on Windows 10, with only the Morrowind Code Patch version 2.2 installed as far as mods go.

Re: Lag Spikes
Update: After reinstalling Morrowind and downgrading to OpenMW 0.40.0 the problem is completely gone.

Re: Lag Spikes
What happens when you re-install 0.41 overtop of 0.40? Are the lag-spikes back?
Re: Lag Spikes
Strangely enough, after installing 0.41 the lag spikes aren't back! In the process of installing 0.40 I uninstalled and reinstalled Morrowind onto my SSD (same drive as OpenMW) instead of my HDD (different drive than OpenMW), and checked off the Steam overlay... although I doubt the Steam overlay was affecting the game anyway.psi29a wrote:What happens when you re-install 0.41 overtop of 0.40? What I do notice now is a very minor yet consistent stutter in FPS every second or so, although I'm not sure if that was there to begin with and the FPS isn't dropping considerably--not a big deal. Perhaps the game wasn't loading content properly because of having been installed in a different drive, causing lag spikes rather than stutters?

Here was my solution. Let me know if it helped, or if it didn’t but you figured something else out how to fix it. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qL93w0nu4Aw&t=3s
