Nvidia RTX Remix - Morrowind

Post by KajikiaAudax »

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been covered, but there's a really cool video that Nvidia did with IGN where Nvidia is showing off something they call Remix. Basically Remix will let us add raytracing to games like Morrowind (they literally use Morrowind as their example in the video), modify existing assets, swap in/out various assets, etc... The video is basically amazing and has to be seen to be believed.

Video is here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUX3u1iD0jM

I was wondering if anybody had any thoughts on if this functionality will work with OpenMW? It seems too good to be true.

It can't work with OpenMW as we use OpenGL rather than Direct3D. It also can't work with a bunch of Morrowind stuff like MGE XE, as they use Direct3D features it inherently can't work with. Also, Nvidia aren't releasing their Morrowind work to the public, which suggests there's some major drawback that means it can't be as good as in the video.

That said, it does make some things possible that weren't before, like doing model replacements for some older games that never gained proper mod support.

That's interesting. I wish it could work with OpenMW, etc... but if not that's fine too. It would be amazing to play something like Deux Ex GOTY (or even Half-Life 1, or Thief, etc...) with raytracing enabled. We'll see if this feature lives up to the hype.
