I would like to check if cleaning my saves helps my problem with CTDs almost every time I save.
Most of the time the log just stop without any error message about the crash at all so that's no help.
Since this is a very late game character the filesize is of my saves are very big. Over 20MB each.
If only Wrye Mash for Openmw would have savefile functionality yet.
Is it possible for the non-omw fork to clean omwsaves?
Is there a way to clean omwsaves?
Re: Is there a way to clean omwsaves?
It is very unlikely that it will help. 20 MB (most of it is a data about visited cells state) is not too big for OpenMW (somewhere in 0.43 you'd have about 35MB per save at the same point) nor by many other RPG's standarts (for example, Skyrim or Pathfinder: Kingmaker can have much larger saves, up to 100 MB each).
If you remove data about visited cells, it would be as you just started a new game but cheated stats and equipment via console.

Ok, it's good to hear that the size is not abnormal.
I wonder then why the game CTD's almost every time I save.
It's a mostly vanilla install with only TR and PT.
By the way is Tamriel Rebuilt demanding for the device playing it?
I just wonder since it mainly happens on the mainland.
I usually get a low ram warning before the CTD's and I play on a mid level tablet.

Ah, I noticed that you are running Android... so yes, probably the Out-Of-Memory killer is trying to save the tablet and killing your application. You'll likely need set object paging off and navmesh generation as well.
How much RAM does your Tablet have?

It's a Samsung Galaxy Tab A7.
It does have 3GB of RAM.
I have set distant land and the AI distance settings as low as possible.

3 GB RAM for Android setup is not that much due to its hardware limitations. If the reason of crashes is really the lack of RAM, make sure that you do not use any hi-res texture replacers.

Re: Highres textures
No, only vanilla + PT and TR vanilla resolution option.
In the game there is only one screen resolution option. That's the one I use.
Every other setting in the game is way down or off.
Except FOV which is default-
The thing is that earlier in Vvardenfell I used quite high settings without frequent crashes and never happened while saving.
So TR is too demanding when you consider where the CTDs happen?

It is certainly possible, I think even Morrowind.exe... even if it could run on Android would struggle with 3GiB of RAM. The fact that you get a low RAM warning should be an indicator.
Are you running with distant lands? If so, I would turn this off. I would also turn off navmesh generation which runs in the background. That should makes things slightly smoother for you FPS wise and also save you on RAM.

Code: Select all
[Terrain]
distant terrain = false
[Navigator]
enable = false

The original engine can actually only address 2GiB of memory.

Re: settings
Thanks Psi!
I'll check them.
@anyoldname That's why I thought three would be enough to run omw.
It was quite fine until started to do quests in and explore the mainland in TR.
I'm thinking of installing mw on my phone and then transfer the saves and config folders.
My phone has four GB of RAM. It did a good job running Arktwend at least.
Even its screen is much smaller it's much more important to have a playable game.
