Get OpenMW on Steam

Post by trymeout »

Try to get OpenMW to be on Steam, all that is needed is a copy of Morrowind GOTY from Steam to download and use OpenMW within Steam. It will work on many OSes and it will allow you to launch OpenMW within the Steam client as a official Steam game.

SKSE and Enderal, which are Skyrim mods, have managed to get on Steam. It makes it easier for people with no modding experience to install them, and (in the case of SKSE) potentially makes them look more trustworthy to sane people who are a little bit sceptical about putting random DLLs on their machine.

I think this is an excellent idea, but it might be best to wait for 1.0

I think this is an excellent idea, whether pre-1.0 or not, tbh. The original game is already more than playable via OpenMW; plus, the engine would get exposure to more people. Any really, being an open source project, isn't this kinda the goal?

Just to add a random thought to this post, it would also be useful with the multiplayer elements, being able to connect to a server through steam, or even (if possible) have an offical server. Still in the far future, but could be fun.
