Nexusmods account re-validation

The Nexus mods site has decided to require accounts to be re-validated once a user hasn't logged in for 6 months.
I currently have very little time to dedicate to video games but Nexusmods is a site that I was almost guaranteed to return to.
Now, I registered my account easily more than ten years ago and since I don't have access to the old email address, the account is dead.

There may be security advantages to this, but I find it quite drastic. This hasn't happened to me before. I actually think this is terrible. So, a user can't update their uploads, then?

What are your opinions?

Ideally, people should change their email addresses on all their accounts hen they lose access to an old one. I also think that if you contact the Nexus admins to ask to have an account re-activated, that can be done. If it's an account with a bunch of files, I imagine they'd much prefer to have someone maintaining them than having them abandoned to history.
