Thief Companion Constance menu topics not all there

Post by argonvegell »

OpenMW 0.37 running on Linux.

Thief Companion Constance
by Grumpy and Emma
http://lovkullen.net/Emma/Constance.htm

Constance's menu is the vanilla Morrowind:
-a companion Constance
-assistance
-combat
-condition
-follow*
-hurry up
-move
-skills

But when I loaded up her on OpenMW, all menu topics are visible and responsive, but the follow option is missing, meaning you can't command Constance to follow, stay or wander.

Is there any error/warning messages in the terminql when you access this option?

I'm not sure, since this is my first time reporting a bug, I'm not sure, what is terminql?

Anyway, I'll give you details of what I did, I installed the mod like any other mod, directly on the data files, and launched OpenMW and selected the mod and play.

When I picked up her in Gnisis, she was responding like in vanilla Morrowind, unlike in previous versions of OpenMW where I couldn't even select her, but when she became my companion, the follow option that ought be on her menu wasn't there, so I can't make her stay up or wander.

terminql is a bad written version of "terminal" because i switch between azerty and qwerty keyboard all the time.

Basically, when you run OpenMW, there is a cmd windows that is open in the background. Some messages are printed in there when the games run.

So You should :

- open the game

- access this Constance's menu

- try several option

- alt+tab the game out and look at text in this cmd windows

If there is only messages about playing mp3 music and loading celles, then it means there is no error messages and you should dig deeper.

One option to dig deeper is to open the mod with the OpenCS and to use the tools inside it, to verifiy the good quality of the scripts. Because of the permitivity of the script engine, you should have at least warning there, if not blatant erros, that will give us a lot of info about why the mod is not working as it should.

took a look... the follow is added as other topics in opencs and vanilla cs without *

also enchanted editor doesn't show anything out of ordinary or missed it somewhere but my quess is that it's workaround to companion function of some sort.

console output appreciated : )

also there were 4 errors in scripts number 1 being used in removespell.
Player->RemoveSpell "aa_con_det_cr2" 1

there could be usage for extra parameter later for "random" number of spells removed according to list, string, var which could fit also for this. warning?

ninjaed .p

edit: in opensuse it comes from right click -> action -> run in console
output is also printed to openmw.log
in home/.config/openmw

Whenever I open up OpenMW, I don't see any command prompt of any kind, I'm using Xubuntu by the way.

I'm not really sure on how to get console outputs with OpenMW, I'm more of GUI-type of user more than a Terminal-user. Sorry.

Re: Thief Companion Constance menu topics not all there

... it was in the end the
not local, follownow == 0 and 1 in follow conditions.
local was fixed some time ago (maybe) so would guess that not local is searching across all cells in openmw causing other scripts to interfere. same line also possibly causing vanilla engine placing * at runtime.
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1412&p=34881 it was this one at least

this needs little testing if vanilla is looking on cell level or local for some reason not working

( or as in above link the not local is broken, looking from local script, somewhat
i think that openmw is also "broken" on this one. in vanilla
not local return always true when the specified value is not found locally and false when found.
corresponding to
local, var =! 1
which returns true while 1 is not found..
(edit of edit: problem being that in mod there's two with exact same infos besides different not local value canceling each other and / or topic out somehow ))

as this may cause combapility issues in vanilla also
setting it to local fixed the problem at least when there's no others in vicinity
but taking how it's used in other topics it's searching with that, only from script attached to constance in this case

other was
addtopic -spells
addtopic -magicka
missing " " around them

also fixed the addspell parts for now and couple unnecessary endifs which gave warnings

anyway there's a patch to apply (also on dropbox)

Thanks sjek.

How do I apply the patch though? I have never applied any patches before, so I'm a newbie, I wouldn't know how to apply them.

download and place into data files folder and then select from launcher.
(worked for a good time) it automatically put it to load after constance 1.0 esp overriding wanted parts of the original ingame
a note that you have to rename the .txt out as it's for webpage saving
