Environmental effect

Post by worsas »

Am I right in saying that openmw does not support the environmental textures that are often utilized by modders?

I have heard about the normal map support and I have seen the engine handling objects with material based specularity quite nicely, something I'm extremely happy about. Though if openmw does not support the environmental effect, many many models will have to be changed so they still work as intended in openmw. I found the environmental effect to be a nice means for adding a self-defined shininess to water-, ice-, glass- or metal- surfaces myself in the past and its odd to think about that these all will no longer work in openmw.

Yes, that's right, last I checked it was not supported. Possibly because the vanilla game almost does not use it at all, except in some very few meshes. But you are right that many mods, not only those with Bump Maps, are using it, and I hope they will include it in the future. Here is the corresponding bug ticket: https://bugs.openmw.org/issues/1827
