OpenMW Steam Group

Anything related to PR, release planning and any other non-technical idea how to move the project forward should be discussed here.

I agree. I don't really think OpenMW is a "game". It's just an engine replacement. You still need the content to go with it, and Morrowind's already on Steam.

I still have hope that Bethesda will make Morrowind free one day as they did with Arena and Daggerfall. I think it being sold on Steam probably makes that something I should try not to hold my breath for, however.
The idea of a free Morrowind download and Bethesda linking users to OpenMW as they do to DOSBox is a happy thought none the less.

It would introduce millions of people to their franchise though. Can you imagine how many people would download Morrowind if it were free? I mean 4 million people spent 50 dollars to buy it. But yeah, I think it's highly unlikely. The business model is becoming to have your video games purchasable for all times. I honestly think tens of millions of people would download it (a free Morrowind) if they could run the assets through a fully functional OpenMW. I mean Universities might use it as a teaching tool.

Don't know how possible that is, knowing OpenMW is "just" an engine.. It would be mind blowing though, buying Morrowind over steam, and then choosing in-steam if you want to download&install regular Morrowind or Morrowind with OpenMW
But there's like no chance at all for that to happen
Wait, why would there be no chance?
Well, for one thing, Greenlight is for games, not for software that works with games that are already on Steam. Greenlight doesn't really figure into this equation. What we are really discussing is the possibility for Steam/Valve and Bethesda to allow an option on the Morrowind Steam store page to download and install OpenMW in a someone integrated manner with a Steam version of Morrowind (Integrated as in *click regular Morrowind icon, not a custom created shortcut, in Steam library* *Option comes up: ()play using original engine; ()play using OpenMW; []remember this choice*). How likely is this scenario? I say almost no chance as, at some point, it would require someone from one or both of the aforementioned companies to do some work that they would not be likely to see any financial return from. I'm not saying anything bad about either of those companies or that it would be impossible to persuade them, but you guys know how these things go.
Look at ArmA II's Mod DayZ, it is featured on the ArmA II download page for Steam.

DayZ is a mod and a game within itself as I understand it. OpenMW is not close to being anything like that. It simply isn't the same.
