So I installed through my distro's package manager and that version works.
I had been using the version provided by Luxtorpeda. I don't know why the Luxtorpeda version was giving issues, but my issue is solved now.

What is Luxtorpeda?
For future reference, it would probably be best to ask the support questions to the place where you got the application as it is likely their problem (packing different version of libraries, etc.), they can then contact us if there is a problem.
I'm not saying it is their problem, but it would allow us to focus on issues not related to somebody's else builds that are not ours.

Luxtorpeda is a tool that installs a linux native engine for certain games through Steam. This is their link https://github.com/luxtorpeda-dev/luxtorpeda .
I understand completely, I thought that they had just wrote a script that streamlined the download form the openmw repository, but looking into it they are installing one from their own site. I'm going to open an issue on their end.
Thanks to everyone who tried to help.
