building openmw: ogre

Post by krogg » 31 Mar 2020, 03:24

So I compiled OpenMW back in December and it ran great. I was surprised, I was amazed. It even ran with my plug-ins. Wow. Nice! This was in Linux.

The last time around I didn't know what I was doing so I used the regular version of openscenegraph and I compiled in ogre as well as its dependencies. Still, OpenMW ran fine.

I just did a fresh install of Linux the other day so ... time to compile OpenMW anew. This time around I want to streamline the process and/or make it run better.

Now for my question: the wiki for OpenMW shows how to compile MyGUI without Ogre "if you do not want to have Ogre installed." But it does not say what the difference is. Will OpenMW run any differently without Ogre? Faster? Slower? Will it look the same?

OpenMW does not use OGRE since 2015 or so.
