Do we need a Vanilla Morrowind Install?

You can disregard this post, I decided to go ahead and make Morrowind vanilla again.
I am getting back into Morrowind, and I worked through the entire S.T.E.P. guide (took 2 days) then I looked up OpenMW and now I want to test this out. I installed mods like MGE XE and MCP, among others, which I know are not compatible with OpenMW.
I assume that yes, I need a vanilla Morrowind install, but figured I'd ask before I went that route.
EDIT:
Against my better judgement, I went ahead and installed OpenMW on top of my modded game, I started it up and started Morrowind. Morrowind launched perfectly fine and I started a game, I was able to move around and it looks good, but I get a weird fisheye issue, everything just looks distorted.
I am surprised it even started up, honestly, I intend on making Morrowind vanilla again, I was just curious what would happen.
