I've submitted the PR for the this so it should be up within a day. The location will be: http://openmw.readthedocs.io/en/master/ ... stall.html

Touché, and I 100% agree that we need a dedicated trouble-shooting section. This is getting to be off topic, but is there a reason we don't have the FAQ in the wiki? It seems like it would be nice for situations like this where someone knows how to fix their own problem and thinks it should be added. We would need to do a lot of formatting work so that we had a good template for people to work from, but people are usually pretty good at following the format of what's already given to them. Is it just to control bloat?

Yep, looks good.

That decision was made way before my time. Maybe one of our senior members can weigh in? If you ask me, there is nothing to be said against moving the FAQ to the wiki.

I would completely support moving the FAQ to the wiki as long as we keep the link in the main page navigation. I feel like it needs to be there for visibility.

I'd suggest nano editor. Also, forcing plain text mode in TextEdit should help, try Cmd-Shift-T.

Opening the file in Sublime Text is another graphical alternative to get the job done.
