I agree wholeheartedly.
So these are some low-hanging fruits to people interested in working on this.

I suggest to pull cc9cii's down (git fetch cc9cii), then create a new branch on your local fork, then cherry-pick these commits then compile. If it compiles without errors, create a PR or MR :)
I asked because I was thinking about trying my hand at it. I realized from looking through his file structure that there were dependencies based on Ogre3D. I might try my hand at this over the weekend, but I make no promises. I'll come back with any progress I make.

FYI: Upcoming OpenMW 0.46 will understand BSA archive format used in Oblivion, Fallout 3, Fallout NV and Skyrim.
