Better Sounds silences my sound effects

Post by kenny26 »

I've been following the Graphics Overhaul list: https://modding-openmw.com/lists/graphics-overhaul/
All of the mods I selected from the list worked wonderfully with my OpenMW 0.46 build, except for better sounds: https://modding-openmw.com/mods/better-sounds/
I've been following the guide pretty meticulously, including the part where the guide warns against using the .esp's from the original Better Sounds, and to use the patched version instead: https://modding-openmw.com/mods/better- ... 11-patch2/
I also followed the instruction to add the line "buffer cache max = 64" to my settings.cfg file.

In short, I followed the instructions to the letter, and did not even download the original .esp files from Better Sounds on Nexus Forums, but instead used only the .esp from the patched version provided on the Graphics Overhaul list, yet when I enable the mod folder in my OpenMW.cfg and play the game with the patched .esp enabled, it simply mutes almost every sound in the game. NPCs still have spoken dialogue and weapon hits have a sound effect, but nothing else does. No weather sounds, no swish from a swing and a miss, no animals have any sounds and no spells have sound effects either. In short it seems my OpenMW is overriding the default sounds successfully, but the sounds it ought to replace them with are absent.
I would love to be able to actually enjoy this mod since it is the most highly acclaimed sounds overhaul mod for OpenMW, but I have not had any luck. I cannot even find recorded examples of the supposedly wonderful sounds provided by this mod, so I will never even know if it is actually working correctly except by sheer guesswork.

I've been playing without the mod enabled for now, but honestly some of the vanilla sounds are grating on my patience (Cliff Racers, Rats, almost any female player sounds when taking a hit). Please help me actually get this mod working with OpenMW without having to risk touching the buggy files of the original mod. I'm terrified that they will rename my files and cause conflicts. Like I said, I've only dared touch the .esp files provided by the patched Better Sounds in the overhaul list, but those are clearly not working for me.
