Checked it out - neat. - Hlena the shy, frugal Hunter. 3 hours in was in Caldera and didn't scam a talking monster out of tons of money... that must be from choosing willpower as one of the boosted stats.
The character development mod changes everything.
I miss having the innocence from before first playthrough. On later playthroughs I had very hacky approaches.
I don't necessarily want my character to be OP but I want to have the option to be. In the old system the closest you can get to perfect requires thinking ahead really far and being very careful with levels. When I played I would figure out how to have the most useless major and minor skills so that they start low and can be leveled in a controlled way as high as possible, putting a point in luck at every level up...
Of course paying trainers is easier than grinding skills. Once I discovered the monster that buys weapons and magic stuff at 1:1 value without haggling I sold him stuff, slept so he'd refresh - do that a few times so he'd have stuff to give me - and then I could sell even expensive items (with him just trading stuff back) - that was tedious though - so once I established I can effectively sell anything at this point (and given that time doesn't tend to matter in Morrowind) I'd edit his shop value so he can buy stuff at once.
Next, initially I'd bring Daedric artifacts etc until I noticed I can just make bigger and bigger orders of silver arrows from the smith across the street by trading back and forth thus increasing his base stack size...
Finally, with effectively infinite money, I'd chase down the skill trainers for the upgrades. Once that all is done I'd start the normal game "now that I don't have to worry" about imperfect upgrades etc. -- of course by then everything is too easy and immersion is so very broken...
On my last playthrough I also got hard into enchanting _everything_ with constant effects, night vision, regeneration, feather (to offset heavy armor)
On my next playthrough I'll definitively try that... and the packing animal was a nice touch, too! Would be great to be able to role-play Morrowind once more!
