Endless Sky

I saw an article about this game during the week, and it's so darn awesome. Endless Sky is a space trading/combat action game with a focus on having strong story-driven elements. It's still in development, but it's feature complete—I haven't found a feature roadmap so I can't be 100% sure, but I think most of the remaining components in the game relate to story mode, but even then I can't be sure.
Endless Sky is a remake of an old game called EV Nova (it's described as being a Mac shareware game, but I played it on Windows and I think it *might* have had a Linux release). If you've never played EV Nova, it's similar to a game called Transcendence, though there are pretty darn significant differences. It's GPL-licensed and has pretty darn good gameplay, plus some features that EV Nova never had (for instance, any ship can be used by any faction because there are elements that get recolored). It also has full mod support; all the game data that isn't hardcoded (which isn't much) is available in plain text files, which includes all of the missions, ships, and outfits in the game.
