Unlike pretty much everywhere else I've posted this, I don't think I need to explain the idea of a FOSS engine rewrite here
I'm trying to give Diablo the OpenMW treatment
So far you can walk around tristram, and the first few levels of random dungeon.
http://freeablo.org/ is the (very basic) website I have for now, and the repo is at http://github.com/wheybags/freeablo.
I know there are a lot of talented developers here, so I am here to scrounge for contributors :3
Freablo - FOSS Diablo
Re: Freablo - FOSS Diablo
You know what I think you should add, is multiplayer. That'd be a really great feature.
Jokes aside, I'm really excited for this! What are you plans regarding moddability? I remember D1 only had one armor set that actually showed on your character, do you think more complex art support will be possible with mods of your engine?
EDIT: I readed your paper, which claims: "It will use the original data files, so as to avoid issues with copyright, but will also support modern file formats, and be a generic engine for games of that style." Very cool.

Re: Freablo - FOSS Diablo
Eventually I'd like to take the "mod all the things" route
Individual item skins would definitely be a cool mod

I wish you success, wheybags.
Re: Freablo - FOSS Diablo
That is interesting I hope all will work
Re: Freablo - FOSS Diablo
I followed the instructions, compiled and tried to run it and got this:
Code: Select all
resources\exeversions\versions.ini
File "resources/exeversions/versions.ini" not found
zsh: segmentation fault ./freeablo
Re: Freablo - FOSS Diablo
Ah yes, sorry, you have to copy the resources folder to the folder you run it from for now

Works now.wheybags wrote:Ah yes, sorry, you have to copy the resources folder to the folder you run it from for now
Good luck with the project. I'll be keeping an eye on it.
