If you're building from source, you're not using the generic Linux binaries, so you can use whichever version works best with from-source builds.

Yes, but I don't know which works best, I assume there is some reason why they are built against those for the generic binaries? Does it work fine with the latest versions of Qt and libpng (I have not had the need to build from source before)?

If you want to use a binary package, it's probably best to use one specific to your distro if it's available. The generic builds are kind of lowest common denominator when it comes to their dependencies.

Build from source of 0.46-branch works fine here.

QT 5.15 , Openscenegraph 3.6-git , libpng 1.6.37 (would be libpng16 if using same naming scheme as libpng12 ) etc.

The archlinux official openmw package also builds from source and was updated 37 hours ago, no bug reports atm.


Just one word of caution for source builds :

Use openScenegraph 3.6.5+ or Openmws own 3.4-experimental branch at https://github.com/OpenMW/osg/commits/3.4-experimental .

Openscengraph 3.4.1 may also work, but of the 3.6.x releases only 3.6.5+ is functional with 0.46 .
