Multiple Instances for MP (Split Screen)

Hi,
I did some research, and couldn't find anywhere a way to disable or select a specific controller for OpenMW. Is it possible through some option in the settings?
Also, is background input an option? When I have both instances running, having background input enabled for the instance using a controller will come in handy. Two years ago someone asked about background input (viewtopic.php?t=4120). I'm wondering if it's been included since then.
I ran two instances of OpenMW MP edition, which worked flawlessly. Had both connected to my server, with two characters side-by-side, and had a nice split screen setup going. I would really like to know if there's a way to designate an input to each instance to achieve full split screen.
