Pago Pago Example Suite map

Post by DestinedToDie »

So this is pretty interesting.

http://navy.memorieshop.com/World-Ports ... utuila.jpg

We have stuff like 'turtle and shark legend site' and 'Fogamaa crater' in the southern edge of the island. I think our current starting point is at the western shore where there is a town and mostly mountains. Not sure what the national parks are, though bet the Internet will provide some information on them.

This map also contains roads and mountains. If we want to place a city somewhere, we can just look where cities are placed on the map, google names, read up and look at pictures of them.

It seems like the island on map is fairly populated, with villages/towns being close to each other. But we don't want that (or do we?). We could either ignore the smaller ones and include only what seems sensible, or we could upscale the island to the point where distances between villages are sensible. The latter would mean that there is going to be more cells overall to finish for the whole island to be complete.

I found a map based on satellite images: http://mapcarta.com/24107412

For those just tuning in, here is the reference including photo of how it looks in OpenMW:

We can scale things (height) up or down as necessary. Scaling the map size however is a bit more tricky but is possible, it can case some pretty weird gradient problems if you're not careful... if you making it smaller for example, the rate of change between two cells can't be more than -127 or 128 units.

Could run it through oil paint to smoothe things out.
