Does OpenMW allow for better animation support, at least at the v1.0.0 mark?
For the Template / Example Suite, that is exactly the plan. It's just real life (work) getting in the way these days, hence slower progress. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mW02ef7pNbw is the latest preview and the bird creature concept posted by mclawliet is related to that.

Will be nice to animate a better looking model than the placeholder I made. We went for a more developed version of 6. and will soon have the final candidate. Soon meaning there's only a few design details left to do, depending on her available time, of course.

Lamoot is leaning towards 5 and 6, so I'll make new sketches, mixing features of those two in the following days. But which bird do you like the most? :)

Been working on the bird creature these past months and it's finally taking some proper form. The model is done, the texture is almost done and I'm starting to work on the animations. More progress is visible here https://gitlab.com/OpenMW/example-suite ... requests/9

During this period we also improved the collada exporter with nelsson. So it's not only about documenting the pipeline but making it more streamlined. The exporter is now under OpenMW's git domain https://github.com/OpenMW/collada-exporter

Thanks! There's still work to be done, but the end is finally in sight with the animations.
Current working files are available from https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/fold ... O-f-iF8B4e under CC-BY license.
Once the model is done it will be available in OpenMW Example Suite repository.

Finally the Land Racer is done and the docs are up. With this we now have proper documentation on how to get static and animated models from Blender to OpenMW. Any newcomer to the engine now has the needed information how to work with 90% of all 3d assets you'd see in an rpg.

https://openmw.readthedocs.io/en/latest ... odels.html
https://openmw.readthedocs.io/en/latest ... ature.html

Next on my todo and the missing 10% is to make a complete set of animations for a human biped. Beside the asset itself, there will be documentation related to its animations and on how to prepare valid body parts. This is all needed for NPCs and player character with interchanging equipment. It will, as usual, take a while.

The final product looks amazing. I would definitely use this in OpenMW. As for documenting the process of creating this creature and bringing it into OpenMW, that is great. We need people to create content to replace the Morrowind content for the example suite.

Please keep up posted.

Thanks! Slowly but surely we're getting there.

Based on https://blendswap.com/blend/23521 I started optimizing the model for OpenMW use. This will be the proto humanoid with all the needed animations.

I also assisted unelsson recently with his task to implement COLLADA deformable body parts in OpenMW. This improvement is one of the missing pieces we need for a proper character model. Animations are yet to come. https://gitlab.com/OpenMW/openmw/-/merge_requests/1682

Rig is in a working state, will wrap up the smaller details later. Skinned body parts work with a wip patch by unelsson https://gitlab.com/OpenMW/openmw/-/merge_requests/1682

Got a decent initial set of movement animations done and in-game.
