Application: Empiracy

Post by Empiracy »

Howdy! My name is Evin, and I have been an Elder Scrolls fan for many years. I have been programming for nearly 6 years, and have been working as a professional software engineer for about a year. Prior to beginning my software career, I served in the US Marine Corps as an Engineer/Squad Leader, leading and training Marines whilst drafting technical requirements and planning documentation. I have experience with Java, C++, SQL, etc. however I mostly work in C# / .NET writing backend web development for logistics software.

I've been eyeing this project for some time and became inspired to apply after seeing the most recent release video. I am not a game engine programmer, nor are my C++ skills up to par with what is required to knock out engine features, which is why I want to come on in to support by creating Dev Tools, automation pipelines/scripts, and other software tangential to the product itself. I intend to push the workflow and productivity of the team to its highest potential. I would love to talk with the team to see where our workflows need support. :D

Hello Evin, welcome aboard.

Feel free to settle yourself up with our development guide here:
https://gitlab.com/OpenMW/openmw/-/wiki ... ment_setup

Have a read through the wiki.

Our issue tracker is here:
https://gitlab.com/OpenMW/openmw/-/issues

If you're into creating dev tools, perhaps you might like to help out with our editor: OpenMW-CS

While it is not about the engine itself, it enables modders and game creators to create worlds for use in OpenMW itself. This would be a great way to dive into the code base and familiarise yourself with a few things: Qt (Gui), OSG (Renderer) and our components library. :)

You can use that to play around in Morrowind or the Example-Suite.

Or you can look around for issues labeled 'Beginner' that should help ease you in. :)

Side note: POG? :P

Hello psi29a,

Thanks for the warm welcome!
I got my environment set up and have found a editor issue I think I can handle :D. It's gonna take some time to get used to the code base and working in C++ again but I like what I see so far!

Thanks again,
Empiracy

Side Note: Yeah, POG. But at least I was certified to use angry playdoh
