It's official? What about a letter from Bethesda?
What about it? Have you read it?

What basis would they have to stop it? As long as you got the data files through a legitimate channel, they don't really have a way of stopping you from using them for your own personal use on any platform. Of course, they could try to block any use of their assets for promotion, such as issuing DMCA takedown notices for any OMW videos showing Bethesda assets running on Android (because they own the assets), but they can't stop programmers from making an engine (that Bethesda doesn't own) run on another platform. Heck, it already runs on Linux.

If anything, I'd think Bethesda should jump for joy at the idea because they don't have to do any of the work themselves anymore. They could bundle their assets with OMW, which the GPL certainly permits, and sell it on all of the new platforms it supports, like Linux and Android. They'd basically have a corner on the "massive open-world RPG that everyone loves" market for those operating systems. Since it's not their engine, they don't have to worry about maintaining it, but it's open source so they could tweak it to their hearts' content if they felt like it, and the engine (as far as they're concerned) maintains and fixes itself. If I were Bethesda, I'd be thrilled at a new potential revenue stream, and if I were in charge of Google Play, Ubuntu Software Centre, GOG, or Humble, I'd beg on my knees to have a cash cow like that in my store. Having their games supported and being sold on more platforms to more customers can only help, not hurt. Dear Bethesda, let us give you our money and we will. :D

Yes, looks like Bethesda prohibits a using of Morrowind assets in OpenMW's Android port. So, original projects only. I'm right?

No, they prohibit featuring it.

This is what was agreed upon. I should know, I hammered it out with Bethesda.

They haven't forbidden anything... they can't really, unless they and we lawyer up and we lose.

What was agreed upon that we would not promote, on the blog, films and photos of Morrowind running on Android.

We can show films and photos of OpenMW-Template running on OpenMW on Android. :)

I noticed a XL Engine manual in Star Wars Dark Forces section on Steam.

How about to write a OpenMW manual in Morrowind section?

Writing a manual is quite long job and a not very rewarding one.

If you are willing to write one, we will be happy to review it and I'm sure it will be easy to make it official

I updated and improved the FAQ:
https://openmw.org/faq/

Please give it an eye-ball and feedback/corrections are appreciated.

I reworded awkward sentences, re-ordered/worded goals, removed some weasel words and stopped beating around the bush on a few topics.

I would like to write more, but that's all the time I have for today. ;)

You should also mention you can get Morrowind from GOG, too. http://www.gog.com/game/the_elder_scrol ... ty_edition
