Re: Captions for Release Videos
Good call, and nice work.
Re: Captions for Release Videos
Interesting thought.
Re: Captions for Release Videos
here is my translation to french.
it is not word by word but the idea is still there.
some expressions are rather difficult to translate
so I've taken the liberty to adapt them.

Re: Captions for Release Videos
Thank you ap0. I obviously have no way to know if anyone's translations are correct or not, but I've uploaded your changes.
If we do this in the future, I'll try to change the English captions I post to more language-neutral wording so they are easier to translate than what is said in the videos.

Where's the challenge in that!? Hahaha.WeirdSexy wrote:If we do this in the future, I'll try to change the English captions I post to more language-neutral wording so they are easier to translate than what is said in the videos.
Kidding, kidding.
Re: Captions for Release Videos
Your wording is fine, it's the translator's job to find a good compromise that doesn't change the original meaning. I haven't been doing this sort of thing in years, after graduating from school I've always used only one language at a time, I never mixed them. There is seriouly words like "pretentious" or "tedious" I have trouble explaining in non-English I know what they mean but I have a hard time thinking of the corresponding word.
- I wasn't sure whether to translate the word "Lich". I've seen the term "Leichnahm" or "Leiche" used, which can be literally any ordinary corpse or a lich, used in video games (and according to Wikipedia that's how Dungeons & Dragons translates it), but keeping the term "Lich" is also common to avoid confusion with an ordinary corpse. I don't know what Morrowind does because I have an English copy, so could someone please fill me in on this?
- I translated Mournhold because it is translated in the game as well, at least on the description of the box. Again, if this is not translated in the game please let me know. Same for Red Mountain.
- I have no idea how to translate vanity camera. I know what vanity means, but translating it literally is just wrong. I changed it to "all around camera" instead.
- the sencentce at 0:01:02.760,0:01:05.930 should begin with a capital letter, you should correct this if you use English subtitles.
- it should say "shaping the events of Vvardenfell", you forgot the word "of".

Thanks for the corrections! Thanks also for the translation! This is German, correct?HiPhish wrote:Your wording is fine, it's the translator's job to find a good compromise that doesn't change the original meaning.
