Forget Skywind instead OpenSky

I Know it's early but I thought I throw it out there to those Morrowind fans...

Not directed at the OpenMW team you guys are already busy... :geek:
And I never dream of distracting you!

I just thought of the name and decided to throw it out there..

Just for a moment there, I thought you were announcing that as a project.

Damn. I got all excited.

Indeed, that was a lame topic title. You're basically trolling.

Aside from that, a Free game for OpenMW is surely the next step forwards albeit that's a huge undertaking.

EDIT: Yep totally missread you. Well anyway there are many post from active developers in OpenMW to the question "Will Oblivion/Skyrim be ported in the future". And the answer always is: No we don't focus on this/Don't have the time. But if you willing to do so go ahead and open a fork ;)

You are not the first and you won't be the last to ask for this.
Somewhere there is a whole thread discussion about this. Short summary:
The OpenMW team won't work on this because it's not the goal of the project.
The Skywind team doesn't seem to be interested enought (yet) to port their project. And they are still using many assets from Skyrim which couldn't be used in a free port of the game.
Furthermore the engine isn't in a state where big ports like the will be practically possible, since much of the gearwork in the back is still changing, e.g. OpenCS alone is still under heavy development. This slows down the development of such a project way to much to be realistic in the near future.

There's work on turning Ashes of the Apocalypse into a stand-alone game for the OpenMW engine. Whilst a lot of this is beholden to external factors (like the aforementioned work on OpenMW-CS), something is happening here.
