Making a standalone game with OpenMW?

Post by HeadClot »

Hey all!

I recently discovered the OpenMW project via IndieDB.
I am currently working on a game project of mine that is heavily influenced by the Early works of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Space: 1889 and Red Dead Redemption. I am looking at using the OpenMW project as the engine of choice for my project. :)

So I need to ask a few questions -

Art Related -
1. What 3D / 2D Art formats does OpenMW Accept?
2. How is Terrain generated? (Heightmap? Sculpting? etc.)

Technical -
1. What Graphics Library is this based off of? (OpenGL? DirectX?)
2. Is the OpenMW Engine Cross platform compatible? (Linux? Windows? MacOSX?)
3. How Stable is OpenMW?

Modding
1. Would I be able to redistribute a custom version (Asset wise) of the OpenCS?

Thank you for your time,

- Ben

You should read the available documentation about OpenMW.

It's cross-platform, all the platforms you listed are supported.

It's buggy and unoptimized right now. We are not "done" with development, so to speak.

OpenGL and DirectX are both supported.

Hey Ap0,

I had a look at the documentation.

I did not have much success finding any info on model formats / 2D Formats. :(
Same goes with terrain generation :(

Which was why I was asking here :)
