Re: Dark Brotherhood Attack and Guards
I also notice much higher frequency of attacks with OpenMW, for what it's worth. I do think there's a bug here.

Re: Principles and Vision
I think this is too limiting. I am working on re implementing Oblivion's script engine right now (the lexical analyzer atm), there are functions implemented in Oblivion but not in Morrowind, those couldn't possibly be compatible with Morrowind. I believe mixing game assets is not allowed by Bethesd...

Re: Principles and Vision
Truly Zini and Scrawl are the two people whose opinions will be the primary deciding factor, since nobody else has been of this much help since Nicolay's comparatively brief role as originator of the project. I have immense respect for both. I became worried when an older post was necromanced in whi...

Principles and Vision
I've been speaking to a friend lately that has been emphasizing the importance of a coherent vision and strategy in the success or failure of groups. OpenMW is one of the few success stories in the world of open source gaming, and just so happens to be a reimplementation of my favorite game, but we ...

I also remember there were ways to recompress textures to faster formats, but I suppose this might also affect load times more than anything.

For HDD users, you could unpack the BSAs, replace all the vanilla files with desired mod files. Run PyFFI over everything. Then re-pack it all as a BSA. Then your HDD won't need to seek even on mod files.

Re: OpenMW performance vs Vanilla+MCP - are there any benchmarks/comparisons?
Some thoughts: Try compiling OpenMW yourself, but tune the compiler options for your specific AMD processor. http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTc2NDg When compiling, try using pre-releases of OpenSceneGraph (OSG). Last I heard, OpenMW successfully compiled with them. https://gi...

Re: Hackers wanted to (indirectly) help out openmw security
Ace, I'm in favor of allowing the use of unshield on Windows. I don't want ancient DirectX packages clogging up my system, etc. I think the openmw installer is faster and nicer, and being open source is something we can more confidently support.

The original heads may hold a certain charm, but the thousands of endorsements for Better Heads clearly shows that not everyone shares this perspective.
