Re: Addin database

I think that this out of scope of OpenMW and more a general Bethesda modding issue. If someone would make something we could call against (via API) or as a library/plugin... Don't forget that python is still on the table for openmw-cs. :) Agreed outside the scope of the game engine. My concept of a...

Re: Addin database

BMW, I just read the thread you pointed me to. My thoughts in no particular order : 1) Someone pointed me to SQLite which is an obvious choice for this task. While it has certain issues for a "big data guy" (me) in particular the dearth of defined data types, that doesn't seem to stop folk...

Re: Addin database

PSI29a, Yes, that is the general idea I had in mind. A database of mods. A means for Mod authors to check their mods against other mods, and store their own finished mods in the database. A means for Users to check mods they were interested in, perhaps read descriptions of what they do. A means for ...

Re: Addin database

Mindwerks, I appreciate the dialog. Nobody else is responding so there we go. So look, I am not saying that it is the game engine's job to handle this. It is not the CS app's job either. "It would be better to have this all managed for us in OpenMW-CS where the mod author can see the effect of ...

Re: Addin database

I don't necessarily see it as a data store for the game engine, though it would solve problems if that were done. If a binary file works for you it works for me. But a binary file is not a database, it is a blob. It cannot be analyzed in any easy way. It cannot be viewed to see what is in there. It ...

Re: Addin database

I am looking for guidance for what makes sense. I am also looking for information on what already exists. I am studying the CS docs now. When I read the CS guide they talk as if items are records in tables, they discuss parent / child, database kinda stuff. But nowhere does it actually say that a re...

Addin database

I have been a database developer, SQL Server (that you would care about) and C# programmer. I am wondering whether an actual database has been developed for storing objects. It looks like stuff is stored in text files. I have read (over, not memorized) the format for the TES3Mod file formats found h...

Re: On file types, order and other such important trivia

Lol. Two things. A portable install, at least where I have what I want installed, seems to be a no brainer. Afaict that is what I have. At most I have to modify the path lines to point to the location I placed the directory. I did not specify where to do the install and openmw "chose" c:/p...

On file types, order and other such important trivia

I am not a gamer. Empire Deluxe is my favorite game. I played Morrowind for several years starting around 2006. All the way through the main quest. I put it down for many years and when I came back it was quite dated. Yet the game beckons. :D I tried playing it again last week and got tons of crashe...

Re: It's really important to have graphical parity with MGE.

On a long dead thread... 1) I reinstalled morrowind etc from my very old source. LOTS OF BUGS. 2) went looking for help and stumbled across OMW. 3) OMG I am sold. This thing is so stable. It runs higher resolutions. It runs the massive remakes of the content that are out there. I for one don't care ...
