Thanks for the quick reply! I guess this is all going to be sorted out and that text and screenshot updated accordingly so the unwashed masses (like me) can understand the different / recommended options a little better, if I read you correctly.

As long as there's a way to make that one point buff go away, I suppose I could live with this being changed. However, I think it would be unfixable due to the fact that restore spells actually work on fortified attributes in OpenMW, and I don't actually want that random extra point of STR and END....

Oh, right - I know I'd reported issues with objects appearing in one cell but belonging in another re: object paging that were recently fixed, so I guess this was related to the same general issue. Good to know it's fixed anyway!

Just noting the bugfix module of Patch for Purists works flawlessly with OpenMW; as I've had it in my mod order for quite some time, I didn't realize it fixed this issue as well, but I can confirm I don't recall ever seeing the issue with PfP in place.
