Re: The only way to replace Vanilla Engine (IMHO)
Not a dev, but I believe I am accurately representing them in the following. The answer to the “vanilla+MCP+MGE XE+MWSE+mods” features question is almost universally: we either support or plan to support all features provided by those tools, but the implementation will probably not be identical as w...

Re: Shadows
Perhaps I came off more critical than I intended, because we are in complete agreement. I’ve been playing Assassins Creed and their shadows don’t hold up too well under inspection and that’s Ubisoft. If AAA studios can’t get them perfect, then there should be no expectation that we will. Unfortunate...

Re: Shadows
Blurring everything at the edges is an option, but it's not one I like. Shadow map resolution actually has a very, very small performance impact compared to what you might expect, so turning it up is almost always an option if shadows are too pixelated. Try the shadows on an OGRE build of OpenMW (e...

Re: Native Animated Containers and Graphics Herbalism support
I'm very much of the opinion we should use the "both, and" method. Even if post-1.0 we can attach multiple scripts, I still think a native option is necessary. The benefits of ease of use cannot be overstated. Attaching scripts to several objects gets incredibly tedious and just increases ...

Re: How to API Trace
Good info, thanks AnyOldName3! Although I suspect I’ll be able to use it to help in the future. If anyone else has any suggestions, feel free to post them here!

How to API Trace
I've been trying to help AnyOldName3 diagnose a problem with the shadows branch and had to run an APITrace for him. As I'm sure many besides me also don't know how to run one, here's a short guide on how to do so. If anyone wants to add to the wiki, feel free, but it's pretty low on my list of prior...

Re: Distance Rendering
It seems that at some point, we'll have to add "Why isn't openmw using all my CPU?", "What about using X instead of Y, because Z game uses it and the game is nice-looking", and "OPENMW ETA WEN?!" to the Faq. The last is certainly planned and the other two have been add...

Re: What is the status on performance?
I thought all the devs were leaving after 1.0 ;) I wish there was a mod to add +1 to a post, it would down on comments like mine. ;) Adding things to the engine that aren't immediately evident are OK, it can be the basis for mods/games in the future. My only question is, something for post 1.0 or wo...

Re: Recent Negativity Regarding OpenMW
Every single post where someone rudely complains about lack of their pet feature or general progress is actively ignoring one or both of the following items, without exception: hobbies feature creep They also seem to have a proclivity towards bitching about how OpenMW hasn't reached 1.0, and in the ...
