Root Collision Node is only used if you specify a mesh to be used as collision. Otherwise it just used the base mesh as collision. For complex meshes, using root collision would cut down on power needed for calculations, provided the collision mesh is simpler than the original.

That isnt actually quite true. The game Hydrophobia has the most kickass water there is. Unfortunatly, its more like a tech demo than a game as they really didnt put much effort into the story part. Are you talking about actual water physics like this ? As in, where ever the water falls, it reacts with the exterior terrain and environment? Can Bullet do that? OpenMW is a stand alon program that will do much of what that other stuff does; it wont work with teh scripot extender though. This seems the simplest way to put it.
