Re: Thanks!

The statement is still incorrect, though. While our brains can cope with low frame rates when the exposure time is nearly the full frame time, and guess what things look like and how fast they're going, it can do a much better job with higher framerate input. Even watching someone move their hands a...

Re: Thanks!

If it's the one commonly quoted, the US air force were trying to see if they could use screens instead of glass for the cockpit of fighter jets (as it's a lot easier to armour something that doesn't need to be transparent). One stage of the testing involved flashing a single frame with a silhouette ...

Re: New Door & Wood Grain Column Textures: Comments & Critiq

Plugins for image editors are usually just a little bit smarter than just interpreting light as high and dark as low - they often also do an edge detection pass (e.g. Sobel) and then count 'edgy' pixels as being more sloped. I do agree that they shouldn't be trusted whenever there's another option a...

I think something's broken with this thread. It keeps showing up on my unread posts list, even though I can't see anything new, just psi's initial reply on 15 Jan 2017, 19:18

Re: Another OpenMW competitor

TressFX is written as a DirectX 11 compute shader, so doesn't work on non-Windows systems out-of-the-box. However, other parts of GPUOpen work in OpenGL or Vulkan renderers, so should be more compatible. Also, as it's open-source under the MIT licence, people are allowed to port it to other APIs if ...

Re: New OpenMW-CS Icons

Can't we support some kind of vector-based icon format so the UI can be scaled according to what the OS suggests? A cursory googling suggests that Qt has some functionality by which allows icons to be loaded as SVG, and then rendered to a raster image at runtime (as using the SVG directly could be s...

Re: Can't Load Save Games

All sfc tells you is that your operating system is intact. I think the command he was thinking of is chkdsk. However, that still doesn't actually check if the contents of files is bad. If it comes back with a lot of errors, then it means your drive is definitely dead, but it coming back fine isn't e...

Re: Better windows build instructions

Your requirements at the top of that guide state that VS 2013 is required, not VS 2013 or 2015. You've updated it lower in the document, though.

EDIT: ... and I'm not seeing any reference to the build script on the wiki, so if you think you added it, it might have been on the wrong page or something.

Re: Can't Load Save Games

Usually that error is caused when you try to load a save created by a newer OpenMW version. Are you sure that this couldn't have happened?
