Re: Elder-scrolls IV Oblivion

I've not spent any time looking at speedtree at all - at the moment I'm kinda leaning towards using the tree NIFs from Skyrim which comes with LOD meshes and textures.

Re: Distant Lands and OpenMW

Distant statics might be merged in the 0.47 cycle? This would be incredible!! I had thought from this and other forum topics (e.g. https://forum.openmw.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4621) this might take years assuming a dedicated developer had the time, skills, and interest to develop this - viewing dis...

Re: Distant Lands and OpenMW

Thank you for your investigations so far cc9ii. Can you tell if water height is included in Oblivion LOD data? It's determined per cell in Oblivion if I understand correctly, whereas Morrowind has a single pane for the entire worldspace. It will only become necessary to support that for Oblivion, t...

Re: Distant Lands and OpenMW

Some progress notes after playing around a bit: If the Oblivion-like LOD was to be used for OpenMW, there are a number of things that may need to change: Terrain - not sure how the latest terrain in OpenMW works, but some kind of alpha blending of textures will need to be introduced. (prob. using sh...

Re: Distant Lands and OpenMW

Some more notes: I have noticed that Morroblivion 0.64 already has the LOD data, including the low-poly landscape meshes. I don't know yet if they can be used as is or some tweaks needed to adjust the co-ordinates. The '.cmp' files list the cell grid locations where visibly distant statics are found...

Re: Distant Lands and OpenMW

Since you touched on the subject of later games, perhaps we should discuss how that will look. For those who aren't aware, all post-Morrowind titles include LOD files pre-generated by the Construction(Creation) Set(Kit) for the engine to read. Will OpenMW eventually have the functionality to read t...

Re: Distant Lands and OpenMW

I cannot remember if there are any dynamically modifiable static objects in Oblivion that is visible from afar (maybe the player statue?) In any case the Oblivion game files have the ability to support it. The newer REFR records can have XESP subrecord that specifies, among other things, enabled/dis...

Re: Distant Lands and OpenMW

Don't lose hope, it will happen one day. If something like Oblivion kind of distant lands and statics were done would that be good enough? I don't think that will be technically very challenging (but as has been stated elsewhere it is a matter of priorities - but since I'll be implementing it for Ob...

Re: Distant Lands and OpenMW

Sorry to hijack the thread but does anyone know anything about the distantlod\*.lod files and meshes\landscape\lod\*.nif and how they are used in Oblivion?

Re: Elder-scrolls IV Oblivion

I am working on it ;) As far as the OpenMW code is concerned, whatever I've done must be considered not much more than just a test framework. Most of my focus has been on the various libraries so far, be it ESM/ESP, FaceGen or NIF. So I don't really think there will be overlap with what you're doing...
