Re: Is OpenMW playable?

Try harder! We can't fix stuff that isn't broke! Amen. Ha ha! Yes, I get the impression there is some 'psychological stigma' with the fact that the project isn't yet 'at 1.0', that seems to be making some people assume the engine isn't finished ... (when in reality, it's better than the...

Re: Is OpenMW playable?

I'm at level 26 on my OpenMW playthrough at the moment (including Tamriel Rebuilt), which I started about 3 months ago. I've been playing it on Linux - the engine is fantastic and far more capable than the original one. In fact, I can't think of a single bug I've seen that is attributable to OpenMW....

Re: Please bring back Fall Function

What about doing something like making a character's weight (incuding encumbrance) determine their downward motion in the water? Have a certain 'natural bouyancy' weight allowance, and if their weight is over that, they start to sink (faster the heavier they are). That way, if a player doesn't have ...

Re: Where are all the floor traps?

@silentthief thanks for your reply. Yeah, I had guessed it was probably down to time constraints as well. I mean, the project was hugely ambitious as it was, so I guess they couldn't include everything. That mod you were working on with the randomly-placed 'trapped items' is a really cool idea. It w...

Re: Distant Lands and OpenMW

The work itself is non-trivial. Someone with a lot of time on their hands and no experience is going to have a bad time. ;) Someone with a lot of experience will likely not have a lot of time because they are likely earning a high salary working in their field. That leaves us volunteers who do this...

Re: 1.6 Patch on Mac

OpenMW doesn't use the Morrowind.exe file, it is a replacement for it. It just uses the data files. As long as you have the data files installed and OpenMW, you should be good to go.

Where are all the floor traps?

Hey, so this isn't a criticism of OpenMW, but more about the original game in general, but ... where the heck are all the floor traps? I mean, the game is amazing, but to me this has to be one of the most glaring omissions. I'm talking about the sort of traps where you walk over an unmarked 'pressur...

Re: Distant Land + View Distance yeilds low FPS on solid system?

Hmm, not sure if you're on Windows, but I'm using a the latest nightly build and I tried going to "C:\Users\ *Username* \Documents\my games\OpenMW" and found the settings.cfg, but it doesn't have things like Cells and Terrian in it. But the settings-default.cfg file in the install directory has tha...

Re: Distant Land + View Distance yeilds low FPS on solid system?

No mods, just vanilla. With distant lands enabled and max view distancing, I dip down to 15's at the very worst areas. Is there another setting I can bring down to squeeze more performance out? This is my ~/.local/share/openmw/settings.cfg file. Maybe you can compare to yours? I use distant terrain...

Re: COVID-19 Well wishes

Hey, I'm US East Coast. I work as a Mechanical Engineer and am a fan/user of OpenMW. I've been working from home for the past week and a half ... in my basement ... with my OpenMW-loaded desktop PC only a short reach away ... such a shame! Yeah, people have been panic-buying here too. There wa...
