This idea sounds great! I have spent far too long messing around with mods and not actually playing the dam game. Funny, I have had very similar ideas about scaling up the map or increasing the amount of empty map between significant areas. I was looking for the answer to this question because I'm basically using the same method as you! I don't bother with copying out files, I just put mlox in Morrowind folder, enable mods in the vanilla launcher, run mlox to get the order, and edit the openmw config file directly.
