Re: Ogre3d Segfault
An update to the this problem is that it was indeed a problem with libOgre. I reinstalled the 1.7.3 deb package for Ubuntu 11.10 and have things up and running again on a Intel based chipset. I'm just wondering around Seyda Neen and getting 5 FPS, at a tricount of 188383 and batch count of 1074. Pro...

Re: Configuration & Packaging
Of course the global settings can be stored in each user directory, but the point of having a central one is the ease of update. Just imagine that we need to change a setting in Ogre for the new OpenMW release. Without a central global setting it would mean change it for each user. Even if there is...

Re: Configuration & Packaging
Then we have a global openmw.cfg file. By screwing up with this file the user can break the installation. Therefore he should not be able to touch it. The user can always set up his own openmw.cfg file, if he wants modified setttings (and by simply deleting it go back to the global settings). But t...

Re: Configuration & Packaging
It has no sense. A global setting, as such, must be in a neutral place. Who is beyond the ~ you write? The only user whose you can always assume the presence is root, but putting the global settings in /root/.openmw is completely crazy; beside the directory is usually be unreachable (since /root ch...

Re: Configuration & Packaging
What we decide now isn't set in stone. At least until 1.0 we can fairly easily fix any sub-optimal decisions later. For now is just need to work and not look weird to any average technical Linux guy. Agreed... it should not take a *-guru to get a package installed and the game up and running. It sh...

Re: Configuration & Packaging
We need a Linux-guru! ;) 8-) In reality, OpenMW will likely be run by one user on their personal computer. As such, I think the use of /etc is an exaggeration for a game or even game engine. We should just not use /etc. The use of local is usually reserved for those who compiled from source and not...

Re: Configuration & Packaging
As an almost exclusive linux user I prefer this: user configurables: ~/.config/openmw/ save games: ~/.config/openmw/saves/ game/lib (ogre) settings: /etc/openmw/ libs: /usr/lib/openmw resources: /usr/share/games/openmw/ I do not like the idea of putting stuff into /etc/xdg/... that is the playground...

Re: Screen Resolution
These are simply drop-in replacements for the texture files, right? Then I see no problem. I am occasionally testing OpenMW with the U9: Redemption TC (where I am one of the lead developers). We are using high-res textures and they work flawlessly. I had no idea you lead up U9... I was watching tha...
