More gamepad support

I just started playing using a Dualshock 4 controller, and it's much better than the original engine on Steam with a controller. I was wondering if there were any thoughts on having chat windows use a type of selection menu with the D-pad how the pause menu has?

We've had discussions and prototypes for improved gamepad support in the past, but nothing's quite got to the point of being a mergeable MR yet. Being a volunteer project, it can be hard to find people willing and able to do this kind of work, especially because they also need to not have something more interesting that they could be doing - most of our regular contributors have a particular interest in something else in the project.
