Well, I think it should be in the final version of your castle. But I guess there are more important things to do at the moment.

For the future: What about a drawbridge-gate-portal combination? First a drawbridge, then a gate (portcullis), finally a heavy wooden portal with ironwork. (The gate would be lowered only in case of an attack, whereas the drawbridge and the portal would be closed during nighttime.)

I actually wouldn´t mind on working on this stuff. It would mean that we get an over the top epic castle, but no gameplay other than walking around in it. Depends what we want out of the Example Suite. Minimalistic engine demo or full game experience? Or something inbetween?

Looking at the story draft poll viewtopic.php?f=28&t=3380 people liked the idea of making something that resembles a small game rather than a feature-by-feature implementation. But gate+wooden bridge+portal is going into full game territory. We can think of it when my patreon reaches high enough for me to actually work on the Example Suite as a full time job of sorts. Wouldn´t count on that happening, so here´s the lean version I think is more realistic to deliver:

1. Get the castle walls/entrance/towers done.
2. Make doors so you can transition between walls via towers.
3. Go work on character animation.
4. Make a weapon.
5. Make a creature.

That way you can load up the game, equip your weapon, go to into the town (or at least town walls) and start slashing down enemies. Some very basic gameplay. What other people contribute we can add onto that. Be it extra weapons, town buildings, boats or more.

I totally agree with you. "Final" meant a much more elaborated, not-in-the-near-future version of the Example Suite.

Maybe we can do something regarding your Patreon funding with the upcoming "Game Template + Example Suite" video.

I´m pretty happy about Aeslywinn implementing water rendering. Otherwise I wouldn´t be able to tell where water starts and stops. Placing things is a little bit of a nuisance tho.
