OpenMW 0.35.1

Post by scrawl »

Can we talk about accelerating the next release a bit? There have been 3 crash fixes so far, so I would like to get another release out as soon as possible. Either the 0.36 release or an 0.35.1 release. I would prefer the former, backporting the fixes would be extra work.

I am okay with having another release soon. What time scale did you have in mind?

Looking at the roadmap right now, it seems we have almost only bug-fixes.

The new features are:

* Feature #2221: Cannot dress dead NPCs
* Feature #2349: Check CMake sets correct MSVC compiler settings for release build.
* Feature #2397: Set default values for global mandatory records.
* Feature #2412: Basic joystick support

Of these I would see 2221 and 2397 as bug fixes, even if they are classified as features. Basically we are fixing compatibility issues with vanilla MW instead of actually adding features (2221 admittedly being more borderline than 2397).
2349 doesn't add anything from the end user perspective. Its purely build system maintenance.

The only actual feature is 2412.

Therefore I am more in favour of a 0.35.1 release. We just don't have enough substance for a feature release.

I don't really care what the release would be called. In either case we are looking at the current master branch becoming the new release. Right?
Let's wait until the end of the week or so to give everyone time to wrap up what they're working on.

Are the new fonts that have been worked on going to be added to OpenMW, or will they be an OpenMW mod, always separate from our releases?

I thought about taking the joystick changes out. But it is probably not worth it. I'll make the release branch now. Additional bug fixes can go into it until the end of the week. New features should go into master.

Edit: Done. The release branch is called openmw-35-1.

btw. what about the RC phase? My initial thought was that we have one anyway, but keep it short (unless new problems come up).

Edit 2: Can we split this off into a new OpenMW 0.35.1 thread, please? Starting with scrawls initial posting about an early release.

Should I use the readme in the 35-1 branch for a changelog?

The changelog hasn't been updated yet. I will let you now when it is ready (probably Friday-ish).
