Do I need to download a new client every patch?
Do I need to download a new client every patch?
Will the client update automatically or do I need to re install every patch?
Re: Do I need to download a new client every patch?
If you're using an OpenMW package for a linux distribution (e.g. our Ubuntu PPA), then your package manager will take care of updating OpenMW. On all other systems (including Windows), you need to reinstall with each new version.

So, does this mean I will lose all my game data?
Re: Do I need to download a new client every patch?
By game data, you mean save games and settings? No.
Re: Do I need to download a new client every patch?
Yes I was referring to saves. How does that work then if I have to re-install and then install again?

All your settings and saves exist in your user directory, not where you installed OpenMW. So when you uninstall OpenMW, you'll still have your settings and saves (and mods). You'll have to manually delete those if you don't want them anymore. This was a design choice.

I know the Doomsday Engine has an auto-updater built in, so maybe OpenMW could do something like that as well. Post-1.0 of course

Re: Do I need to download a new client every patch?
Would be nice if the launcher could parse the github releases (like debian watch file) for latest releases and let the user know. That would be great for all platforms.
Auto-update would have to be something we could disable on building since on Linux, we let the distros handle updating. On OSX and Windows this could be useful though.

i guess i will try un-installing and re-installing and see how it goes. as i think uninstallation entails going to applications and then delete openMW and then going back to the site to re-install
Re: Do I need to download a new client every patch?
I thought the solution was to install Linux in this scenarios...psi29a wrote:[...] On OSX and Windows this could be useful though.
More seriously, it would require the user to install the whole compiler chain... is it not a problem?
