OpenMW freezing before main menu

Post by josefnight »

I'm unable to play Morrowind via OpenMW because it freezes right before main menu loading.

I tried run it in Ubuntu 19.10, Fedora 31 and openSUSE Tumbleweed and the same happens with all of them.
I already tried to reinstall Morrowind and OpenMW a bunch of times.
I tried the version on Ubuntu Repository, the RPM Fusion version and Flatpak version, same error happens, still not able to play.

Here are some screeshots running OpenMW on terminal:
Ubuntu 19.10 - moment right before freeze

Fedora 31

Someone has any idea how to fix it?

You don't have essential assets like GUI textures. Make sure you've installed Morrowind properly (like, really properly).

Nope, I have everything here, It runs normally on Wine, but I want to run it native via OpenMV

The texture erros on Fedora is because of some permission stuff that I already fixed, and it's still freezing

Also make sure that you do not use OpenMW 0.45 with ffmpeg 4.x - it uses a deprecated API, which do not work properly with new versions of ffmpeg.
In theory, it may cause freezes during audio/video decoding.

Is anyone having the same problem? Should I open an issue on GitHub?

How can I change my FFMPEG version? There's no older versions on Ubuntu's repository neither on Fedora's

I suppose it would be simpler for you just to try to use 0.46 builds.
Also you can try to rename the Data Files/Video folder to workaround the issue (if it is really caused by video decoding).

And Capostrophic is right - your install does not seem to be correct. Usually these textures are in the DDS format instead of TGA. Where did you get Morrowind assets?

Can we see the logs please, also have you tried our Generic Linux version? This would help rule out ffmpeg issues.

What was your game installation procedure? CD, GoG or Steam?

The log from terminal or the log from ~/.config/openmw?
The log file on .config is empty.

Nope, I'll try it.

My assets are from GoG's windows version installed by Lutris.
