Issues with Debian Sid and the generic builds

The version 0.41 from the Debian repositories seems to work fine, but for some reason the generic builds are giving me problems like not detecting my main monitor, missing textures with several mods and aquatic creatures above the sea level. The issues happen with 0.41 as well as 0.42. Am I doing something wrong?
