Post by Grendorf »

I am on Ubuntu 12.04 and i can run morrowind trough wine.

Normal behaviour... we are still developing and this gives us an easier way to debug things.

Try (esc)aping to the main menu and select New.

To the rest (Zini included): This is the atypical default behaviour of new users of OpenMW. It will generate more 'help' requests in the future. They (Windows, Linux and Mac users alike) would rather waste up to 5 minutes to register and ask a question here or on the blog instead of reading --help and learning about --new-game command.

First of all, i spent a long time googeling and trying to go trough this forum, the closest i could find was from an older launcher. Secondly, there is no new game option in the menu, no save either btw. (I know i wrote just installed, but actually it was yesterday, its more to point out i have not modded or done anything to fuck morrowind up)

@Grendorf: My last bit was not aimed at you, just that your question is typical and there have been others that have asked and is a case-in-point to current behaviour of OpenMW that needs to be changed. Perhaps not OpenMW but the launcher to pass on the --new-game since openmw by itself could be using a TC and nothing to do with Morrowind in the future.

There is a 'new' but you are right, there is no 'save' as that isn't implemented yet.

Image <-- ingame

./openmw --new-game
^-- at console

The in-game 'new' is scheduled for the 0.24 release but command line `openmw --new-game` should work without a problem and has been there for awhile now. By console, I meant your terminal... not in-game console. Sorry! :)

When you said 'latest' I assumed from source or RC builds... it wasn't until you said 0.23 that it made sense. ;)

You can either wait a bit for 0.24 release or you can help us debug/test:
OpenMW 0.24 RC2 debs:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/396 ... _amd64.deb
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/396 ... 2_i386.deb
^-- not same as PPA, but should still work if you uninstall the previous openmw*.deb packages.

or

OpenMW 0.24 RC1 Generic:
ftp://redfortune.de/openmw/rc/openmw-0. ... xRC.tar.gz
ftp://redfortune.de/openmw/rc/openmw-0. ... tRC.tar.gz

Please post your results here:
