In fairness, the documentation has seen a number of improvements over the last few days. If the current version is idiot-proof, that means that the changes people have been making have made the process much better than it was.

I'm still in favour of a total CMake rewrite, including that of our dependencies, to make it not awful and easy to use existing library installations so I don't need to have two Boosts and two Qts.
