Bug or incompatibility with newline in script text (e.g. messagebox)

I have searched all over and haven't found a discussion about this though I did find a reference to using \n and tested and it works :)

The issue: I installed Save Skill Books from modhistory.com and the script attached to each skill book includes a messagebox with a newline (0x0a) enclosed in "". Morrowind.exe wraps to next line. OpenMW fails. OpenMW-cs shows Error "Incomplete String or Name ()" It's easy enough for someone like me to edit all 226 scripts to replace LF with \n but maybe openmw should work with this? Another option could be for openmw-cs to automatically make the replacements and show a message that it was done?
